How to Promote Yourself as an Online Sports Writer
No one can just write something and expect to gain any reader, unless they go out and actively promote both their work and themselves. Of course I am sure all reading this have the basics covered IE Facebook profile, Twitter account, and the like. For now let us look at some ways to get a few more readers for your sports writing.
My very first suggestions, and this is for people who really want to make writing about sports their full time employment, is to go and apply to be a sports editor at topix.net. If you get approved, and it may take a few tires, Topix will allow you to post your stories directly to their main sports forum.Instead of posting something to a personal Topix account, you get your link on their main sports page. The Topix sports page is a place where online sports fan gather to find things to read, having your story up there is a huge plus.
The next step is to find other online sports writers who write about the team or league you happen to be covering. Reach out to these people, you are both passionate about a certain sport, team or league, and more than likely they would love to do a link swap with you.
The last piece of advice I will share with you today is to go out and find message boards and online communities that deal with your sport, league, or team. I use NFLshouts.com (think of it as twitter for football fans) for all of my football related posts and it brings in a lot of traffic. There are communities out there for every sport, league, or team you can think of. The trick is finding them.
